Job summary

Leidos in Arlington, VA seeks a Principal Software Engineer to lead autonomous maritime software development for US Government projects. You will be embedded in an Agile Scrum team, designing, building, and testing software powering critical maritime programs.

Responsibilities include analyzing, designing, coding new features, leading small projects, mentoring engineers, and driving process improvements. Travel up to 25% may be required; security clearance is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or STEM field with 12+ years of software development.
• 12+ years of professional software development or 10+ with Master’s degree.
• Experience with C++ and Linux; ability to obtain/maintain Secret clearance.
• Experience leading teams and mentoring other developers.

Responsibilities

• Analyze, design, code and update software for new features and performance improvements.
• Participate in the full software development lifecycle from requirements to deployment.
• Serve as technical lead for small projects and ensure technical quality.
• Mentor junior engineers and foster team growth.
• Perform peer reviews to ensure quality and maintainability.
• Drive process improvements and optimize workflows and practices.
• Assist with field tests, analyze results and translate into software enhancements.
• Engage with client stakeholders and communicate progress, risks and solutions.
• Travel up to 25% to support field testing and program milestones.
