Job summary

Genentech in South San Francisco seeks a Principal Scientist (Group Leader) to drive oligonucleotide modalities across drug-discovery programs. You will design, synthesize, purify, and characterize ASOs/siRNAs, mentor scientists, and partner with biology teams to enable rapid decision-making.

You are a scientific leader with a Ph.D. and 3+ years postdoc/industry experience, fluent in communicating complex concepts and advancing cross-functional initiatives.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. with 3+ years postdoc/industry experience in relevant field.
• Hands-on siRNA/ASO synthesis, purification, analytics and backbone modifications.
• Proven track record leading scientific initiatives and cross-functional work.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, synthesis, purification and characterization of oligonucleotide modalities across programs.
• Mentor junior scientists in synthesis, troubleshooting and analytical characterization.
• Collaborate with biology/biochemistry teams to design in vitro/in vivo assays.
• Serve as technical authority for nucleic-acid portfolio and communicate progress to teams.
• Manage lab operations and instrumentation to accelerate research outcomes.
• Foster an open, collaborative, inclusive team culture and problem-solving.
