Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a senior planning manager in California to lead complex planning projects and ensure regulatory compliance. You will advise senior leaders, oversee large-scale development proposals, and coordinate staff training while engaging with communities at public hearings.

The role requires a bachelor’s in planning or related field with multiple years of managerial governmental experience and a professional license is desirable. Flexibility to work from multiple sites is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in planning or a closely related field with five years of managerial governmental experience.
• Master’s degree highly desirable and may substitute for one year of managerial experience.
• License/Certification in planning (APA or AICP) is highly desirable.
• Proactive in business development and client-building activities.

Responsibilities

• Manage complex planning projects, research, and analysis.
• Monitor compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
• Oversee large-scale development proposals and environmental studies.
• Advise Planning Director/Vice President on planning matters.
• Assign work and ensure staff training.
• Evaluate operations and report on performance and improvements.
• Prepare reports and present findings at public hearings.
• Attend evenings/weekends as needed.
• Represent the department at committees and pursue new business opportunities.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban Studies, Public or Business Administration or a closely related field

Five years managerial experience in governmental planning

Master’s degree in related field (desirable)

APA/AICP license or certification desirable

Leadership and business development capability

Valid California Class C driver's license
