Baker Demonstration School seeks an inspired, nurturing, and collaborative PreK Teacher to join our Early Childhood team. The ideal candidate is passionate about play-based, developmentally appropriate education and thrives in a community that values creativity, inclusion, and inquiry-based learning. This role is ideal for someone who believes in the capabilities of young children and is dedicated to supporting their holistic development through a progressive lens. Key

Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement an engaging, play-based PreK curriculum grounded in child development principles and responsive to students' interests and needs.
  • Create a warm, welcoming, and inclusive classroom environment where every child feels known, seen, and valued.
  • Observe and document student learning to inform instruction and communicate progress with families.
  • Collaborate with early childhood colleagues, specialists, and administrators to support student growth and integrate interdisciplinary learning.
  • Maintain active, respectful communication with families to build strong school-home partnerships.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, school events, and ongoing professional learning opportunities.

Requirements :

  • Exceptional teacher with demonstrated expertise in play-based early childhood classrooms
  • Experience in play-based pedagogy and early literacy and numeracy development
  • Expertise in designing a classroom environment that supports the learning of this developmental age
  • Experience in emergent curricular design
  • Experience teaching preschool or a related developmental age
  • Four-year degree in Early Childhood Education or related field
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, experience in building strong relationships with students and their families
  • A deep commitment to enhancing an inclusive school community for students and adults, based on cultural competence, social justice, and respect for diverse perspectives and backgrounds
  • Ability and skill with collaborating and contributing positively to an educational environment that supports a lifelong love of learning, self-esteem, and respect for the community and the world in which we live
  • Commitment to contribute positively to the school community and to develop supportive relationships with students, families, and colleagues
  • Continue to be a lifelong learner through ongoing professional development and collaboration with colleagues

School Information Founded in 1918, Baker Demonstration School is an independent day school committed to providing an exemplary Preschool, Elementary, and Middle School progressive education to our 200 students. Our students come from Chicago, Evanston, Wilmette, and other North Shore communities.
