Job summary

Framingham State University is seeking an Assistant Chief Engineer (Second Class Power Plant Engineer) to operate, maintain, and repair high pressure boilers and auxiliary equipment on campus. You will ensure safe, efficient power generation and respond to emergencies as needed, under the Director's supervision.

This full-time position reports to the Boiler Plant Director and supports a unionized, AFSCME workforce.

Qualifications

Knowledge of the principles of operation of industrial type heating systems.
Knowledge of the types and uses of industrial heating systems.
Knowledge of pneumatics as applied to heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems.
Knowledge of pneumatic controls used in power plant operations.
Knowledge of calibration and/or adjustment techniques applied to pneumatic control systems.
Knowledge of the fundamentals of electrical practice.
Possession of a Second Class or higher Stationary Engineer's license based on the standards established by the Massachusetts Department of Public Safety and pursuant to Chapter 146 of the Massachusetts General Laws.

Responsibilities

Checks, inspects and monitors plant machinery and systems to ensure safe, efficient operation.
Operates chillers, boilers, generators, pumps and valves to provide power.
Repairs and maintains equipment, including turbines, boilers, burners, motors and pumps.
Cleans and maintains work areas and plant machinery.
Responds to emergencies and determines corrective actions.
