Job summary

Framingham State University seeks an Assistant Chief Engineer (Second Class Power Plant Engineer) to operate, maintain, and repair high pressure boilers and related systems. Under supervision, you will oversee 1–5 direct reports and ensure safe, efficient plant operations in Framingham, MA.

The role requires knowledge of heating systems, pneumatic controls, electrical fundamentals, and boiler maintenance, with a Massachusetts Second Class Stationary Engineer license preferred.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of operation of industrial type heating systems.
• Knowledge of pneumatic controls used in heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.
• Knowledge of calibration/adjustment techniques for pneumatic controls.
• Knowledge of electrical fundamentals relevant to power plant operations.
• Familiarity with precision measuring equipment used in power plants (manometers, voltmeters, tachometers).
• Possession of a Second Class Stationary Engineer's license.
• Understanding of safety, maintenance, and repair procedures for boilers and auxiliary equipment.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain boilers, pumps, and auxiliary equipment to provide power.
• Inspect and monitor machinery to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation.
• Perform repairs and overhauls of boilers, burners, motors, and pumps; conduct minor electrical/plumbing fixes.
• Respond to emergencies, assess problems, and implement corrective actions; determine shutdown needs.
• Supervise 1–5 staff directly and potentially supervise 6–15 staff through intermediaries.
