Eaton’s CTO Corporate Technology Office is seeking a Lead Engineer in Southfield, MI. Lead and develop power conversion technologies, coordinate with national labs, universities, and customers, and present projects to leadership.

Salary is a market-range between $105,000 and $154,000 per year, based on skills and experience. The role requires deep expertise in power electronics, modeling tools, and real-time simulators, with a PhD or MS plus 5 years’ experience favored.

Qualifications

• PhD degree in related field or MS with at least 5 years’ industrial or entrepreneurial experience.
• Experience in low and medium voltage power conversion and power systems engineering, including creating specifications, defining application space, designing technical solution concepts, and building and testing prototypes to validate models/hypotheses and documenting results.
• Expertise in Motor Drive technology, drive/converter topologies, high-power electronics; electric machines and controls; electrification of vehicles, energy storage, and grid connected converters; alternative power generation and distribution.
• Modeling power converters and power systems using MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, Simplorer, PSIM and/or PSCAD.
• Power electronics packaging techniques; parasitics management; insulation and interconnection techniques; cooling techniques.
• Real time simulators such as DSPACE, OPAL-RT and/or RTDS.
• Proven track record in new technology development with multiple stakeholders in a matrixed organization.

Responsibilities

• Create emerging power conversion and power system solutions for diverse applications.
• Lead technology projects with local and remote teams and external partners.
• Advance state-of-the-art power electronics and identify commercialization opportunities.
• Coordinate with multinational teams and report progress to project leads.
• Develop technology roadmaps and participate in strategy discussions with Eaton businesses.
