Job summary

Aerotek is seeking a Lead Powder Coat Painter for a contract-to-hire role in Minneapolis, MN. You will lead powder coating operations, apply powder materials in the paint booth, and support line loading, with flexible placement across production areas.

This is a fully onsite, day-shift role with strict safety standards. You will operate and maintain coating equipment, manage materials, monitor pretreatment and curing processes, and mentor junior staff to ensure quality, throughput, and safety

Qualifications

• Advanced knowledge of powder paint systems, types, properties, and storage.
• Hands-on experience with powder coat painting in an industrial setting.
• Proficiency with pretreatment systems, chemistry, testing methods, and regulatory requirements.
• Ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot coating equipment and spray systems.
• Experience with conveyance systems and basic maintenance for continuous production.
• Skill in masking and hanging with focus on quality and efficiency.
• Knowledge of cure oven setup, maintenance, and monitoring.
• Understanding material properties and how they affect coating processes.
• Experience in industrial painting including prep, sanding, blasting, and spray painting.
• Ability to lead powder coating operations while maintaining high safety and quality.

Responsibilities

• Perform high-quality powder coat painting in the paint booth for the majority of the workday, following specifications and quality standards.
• Apply powder coatings using appropriate techniques and equipment, ensuring consistent coverage and finish.
• Set up, operate, and maintain powder coating equipment including spray systems and guns.
• Manage powder materials, including storage and handling to maintain integrity.
• Operate and maintain pretreatment systems, monitor chemistry, and perform routine maintenance.
• Use conveyance systems to move parts and perform basic maintenance to keep systems running.
• Mask and hang parts with focus on quality, line density, and transfer efficiency.
• Set up, monitor, and maintain cure ovens for proper curing and finish quality.
• Perform automated system maintenance and troubleshooting to minimize downtime.
• Interpret material properties to adjust coating processes accordingly.
• Assist with loading/unloading parts on the paint line and flex to other areas as needed.
• Flex to other production areas supporting related painting and prep activities.
• Follow safety and gowning procedures in paint booth and production areas.
