Job summary

The City of Hillsboro is seeking an experienced Chief Plans Examiner to lead our plan review program and guide safe, thoughtful growth for one of Oregon's fastest-growing communities. In this leadership role, you'll oversee a team of plans examiners and collaborate with designers, contractors, and staff to move complex projects from concept to construction.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in Public Administration, Building Construction Technology, or related field.
• Seven years of progressively responsible building construction or plan review experience.
• Ability to obtain Oregon Building Official certifications within six months of hire.
• Valid driver's license with a safe driving record.
• Experience with code interpretation and plan review for commercial, industrial, and residential projects.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily activities of plan examination and code enforcement.
• Supervise staff and manage workload, training, and performance.
• Provide expert code interpretation and design review assistance.
• Lead emergency preparedness efforts for building division.
• Recommend alternative design methods and procedures.
• Support community development and operations center initiatives.
