Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Main Campus is seeking a Phlebotomy Technician to join the Medical Laboratory Team. You will perform blood collection, verify orders, label specimens, and handle processing tasks, supporting diagnosis and patient care.

The role requires aHigh School Diploma or GED, phlebotomy experience, and technical proficiency with standard procedures. Preferred certification and growth opportunities exist within the Cleveland Clinic system. Days plus on-call, Sun–Thu, 3:00am–11:30am.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Phlebotomy experience is required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform blood collection procedures and venipuncture.
  • Verify order requests and identify patient information prior to drawing blood.
  • Label specimens and deliver to the processing area.
  • Perform specimen processing and related tasks (accessioning, centrifugation, packaging).
  • Transport blood and other lab supplies as needed.

A caregiver in this position works days + on-call, Sun – Thur, 3:00am—11:30am.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:


  • Perform blood collection procedures, follow venipuncture procedures and maintain appropriate log sheets.

  • Verify order requests and identify information prior to drawing blood or collecting the specimen/kit.

  • Label all specimens collected and deliver them to the appropriate processing area.

  • Perform specimen processing and send out tasks, including accessioning, centrifugation and packaging.

  • Pick up and deliver blood, other sample types and lab supplies.


Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:


  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Phlebotomy Technician experience

  • Technical proficiency with standard procedures, techniques and common practices

  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in a team environment


Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:


  • Formal Phlebotomy Certification

  • Graduate of an accredited phlebotomy program with a clinical rotation/externship

  • Experience strongly preferred

  • Trouble shooting and problem-solving skills

  • Demonstrate the ability to work under minimal supervision

  • Can excel in a high-volume, fast-paced work environment


Physical Requirements:


  • Requires frequent and long durations of standing and walking.

  • Visual acuity including the ability to distinguish colors.

  • Manual dexterity sufficient to manipulate blood drawing equipment and make measurements.


Personal Protective Equipment:


  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.


Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $17.95


Maximum hourly: $25.50
