Job summary

Mayo Clinic is seeking a part-time phlebotomist to collect blood samples across age groups, adhering to safety and regulatory standards. You will handle specimens, ensure accurate labeling, and interact with patients and healthcare staff to maintain high satisfaction.

Role involves teamwork, efficient operations support, and contributing to staff training and competency assessments. This position is based in Rochester, MN with a 2:00pm–10:30pm schedule and is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent and completion of a phlebotomy training program with 18 months of phlebotomy experience.
  • Current National Phlebotomy certification (e.g. NHA, ASCP).
  • Resume must be included with application.
  • Foreign trained personnel must provide US equivalency evaluation at applicant's expense.
  • DLMP employees must attach early release approval if in current role less than 2 years.

Job description

Obtains quality blood samples using a variety of phlebotomy methods using standard safety equipment from all age groups with strict adherence to regulatory requirements and collection procedures. Provides rapid response to medical emergencies. Performs a variety of point of care testing (POC). Responsible for accurate patient identification, quality specimen labeling, handling and transportation as well as accurate specimen testing using POC equipment. Able to work with a variety of computer programs/systems. Must maintain patient confidentiality. Utilizes good customer relations and communication skills in performing phlebotomy, answering the phone and interacting with patients, nurses, providers and other health care professionals to ensure high customer satisfaction. Demonstrates a positive and professional demeanor. Ability to work independently as well as in a team. Assists with providing operations support to teams by mobilizing staff across various competency based areas ensuring coverage of critical patient care areas. Must possess skills in working in a fast pace environment, coping, understanding, following written and verbal instruction, organization and prioritization, attention to detail, problem solving, critical thinking and decision making. Participates as a member of the interview team. Provides training feedback to education and leadership teams. Assist with completing annual and random skill competencies. Must be able to push a cart and walk distances.

*Individuals hired to this position are required to complete 2 years in this position before becoming eligible to transfer to other positions within Mayo Clinic

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and a graduate of a phlebotomy training program with 18 months of phlebotomy experience or 18 months of phlebotomy experience. Job instruction training is preferred. Ability to solve operational issues with minimal assistance.
Current National Phlebotomy certification (e.g. NHA, ASCP, etc.)
