Job summary

Brown University Health seeks an experienced Phlebotomy Supervisor/Lead to assist in scheduling, training and assigning phlebotomists, and to help develop and implement policies. Strong clerical and venipuncture skills are essential for maintaining high-quality patient care.

The role includes supervising staff, maintaining records, and performing phlebotomy duties as needed. Located at Rhode Island Hospital, the position follows a daytime schedule and supports patient services in a hospital

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Phlebotomy certificate through NAACLS and/or internship with 100 successful venipunctures.
• In lieu of internship, 6 months phlebotomy experience may be considered.
• In lieu of certification, 5+ years direct phlebotomy experience may be considered.
• Minimum 5 years phlebotomy experience required.
• Ability to perform venipuncture and capillary puncture on all ages.

Responsibilities

• Prepare staffing schedules for Phlebotomists; obtain supervisor approval.
• Prepare daily assignments for phlebotomists and clerical staff.
• Assist in clinical unit rounds to ensure samples are obtained and troubleshoot issues.
• Train new phlebotomists and MLT students in venipuncture techniques.
• Regularly perform phlebotomy duties as needed.
• Participate in interviewing and selection of phlebotomists.
• Assist in developing or revising phlebotomy policies and procedures.
• Maintain payroll, workload and program activity records.
• Handle clerical tasks including patient registration and delivering final reports to physicians.
