Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital seeks a Lead Outreach Phlebotomist to coordinate mobile phlebotomy operations, draw blood, and manage outreach staff with a focus on nursing homes and care facilities. This traveling role supports the East/West Medina hubs and drives timely specimen handling across the outreach network.

The ideal candidate has leadership experience, a phlebotomy certificate (ASCP preferred), and a background in phlebotomy with strong attention to detail in a fast-paced field

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required.
  • Associate's Degree or higher preferred.
  • ASCP Phlebotomy Certification preferred.
  • 3 years of experience preferred; leadership experience valuable.

The Lead Outreach Phlebotomy Technician supports the Team Leader by coordinating the daily operations of outreach phlebotomy staff. This team supports the Sales Outreach Department within the Lab and plays a vital role in providing mobile phlebotomy services to nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, and other care facilities. Team members are responsible for drawing blood, as well as picking up and delivering specimens to designated hubs located on the East Side, West Side, and Medina, with Mercy being added soon. Preferred qualifications include 3 years of relevant experience, with leadership experience considered a strong asset. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to influence others, work independently, and maintain a strong attention to detail in a fast-paced, field-based environment.

A caregiver in this position works varying shifts, 4:00am-8:00pm or 7:00am-8:00pm.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Performing phlebotomy and processing duties.

  • Assisting with supervisory responsibilities.

  • Monitoring and ensuring timely specimen collection and processing.

  • Distributing and balancing workload among traveling phlebotomists and lab processing staff.

  • Facilitate development & training for new staff and peer supporter during their new hire period.

  • Assist with supervisory duties when needed.

  • Participate in hiring process as well as input on employee performance, including corrective actions and evaluations.

  • Assist the Team Lead in developing, training and delivering educational programs for both the traveling outreach phlebotomy team and our Extended Care Clients.

  • Build a strong working relationship with internal and/or external customers to meet their needs.

  • Travel to patient locations, these include but are not limited to client's facilities, and house calls.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross (must be presented upon hire or within the first 3 months of employment)

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Graduation certificate from a formal accredited Phlebotomy program

  • Associate's Degree

  • ASCP Phlebotomy Certification

  • 3 years of experience

  • Leadership experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires frequent standing and walking.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to manipulate blood drawing equipment and make measurements.
  • Visual acuity including the ability to distinguish colors.
  • This position is primarily traveling in nature.
  • The average amount of lifting is 10 pounds with occasional carrying of objects up to 20 pounds
  • Work requires finger dexterity and eye hand coordination
  • Working irregular hours including On-call hours
  • Exposure to blood and body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, radiation, and repetitive motions.
  • Pushing and pulling heavy objects
  • Position requires reaching, bending, stooping, and handling objects with hands and/or fingers, talking and/or hearing, and seeing.
