Responsibilities
  1. Acts as a resource to employees and students, including training, orienting, and providing work direction. Monitors work progress, reviews accuracy, manages productivity, staffing levels, and provides guidance on complex issues.
  2. Assists with human resource tasks such as interviewing, staff development, resolving employee concerns, and updating staff on policies and procedures.
  3. Coordinates department workflow including specimen collection, processing, and ordering. Handles telephone inquiries, manages inventory, and maintains supplies and equipment.
  4. Investigates procedural or performance issues, reviews procedures, reports discrepancies, and generates management reports.
  5. Documents quality assurance data, verifies patient identification for safety, and performs venipuncture and specimen collection from patients of all ages.
  6. Prioritizes specimen collection, manages specimens, ensures proper labeling, and responds to additional procurement requests.
  7. May perform limited testing under CLIA guidelines and runs quality control checks.
  8. Instructs students in phlebotomy, data entry, and specimen processing.
  9. Provides care appropriate to patient age, understanding growth and development principles, and assessing patient data.
Qualifications
  • High School Graduate
  • Typically 3 years of phlebotomy or related lab experience
  • Leadership ability, computer skills, excellent communication, and organizational skills
  • Customer service skills and flexibility in scheduling
  • If outreach, valid driver’s license and insurance are required
Physical & Working Conditions
  • Ability to operate necessary equipment, lift up to 50 lbs, and work seated, standing, or walking for long periods.
  • Exposure to biological, chemical, mechanical, electrical, radioactive hazards, and human blood/body fluids.
  • Use of protective gear required, and may involve travel and adverse weather conditions (outreach).
