Job summary

Penn Medicine is a leading academic medical center focused on patient care, research, and education. The Lead Pharmacist oversees day-to-day operations of the assigned pharmacy area, including staffing, scheduling, inventory, and compliance with policies and regulations.

Responsibilities include managing workflow, resolving issues, supervising staff, coordinating with management, and ensuring quality pharmacy services.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Arts or Science (Required) with Education Specialization in Pharmacy OR PharmD Equivalent Experience.
  • At least 2 years of Hospital pharmacy experience (Note that each residency year counts towards experience).
  • Education Specialization: PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Equivalent Experience (Preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and supervise daily pharmacy workflow for the assigned area throughout the shift.
  • Resolve staff and operational issues and communicate to upper-level management as needed.
  • Manage technology issues and escalations as needed.
  • Ensure appropriate staff coverage and redistribute tasks to personnel as necessary.
  • Establish daily goals for the team and monitor performance.
  • Manage purchasing and inventory, including controlled drug orders and deliveries.
  • Review non-formulary requests when Drug Information services are unavailable.
  • Access outpatient pharmacy after-hours as needed.
  • Complete shift sign-out with detailed categories.
  • Participate in PennChart IT testing when necessary.
  • Conduct nursing orientation sessions.
  • Maintain competency and ability to function in multiple areas of the department.

Education

Bachelor of Arts or Science with Education Specialization in Pharmacy OR PharmD Equivalent Experience
2 years Hospital pharmacy experience
PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Equivalent Experience
