Job summary

Westchester Medical Center is seeking a Perfusionist to support open heart surgery and related procedures. The role covers setup, operation, monitoring, and post-operative care of the extracorporeal pump and oxygenator, with leadership duties when required.

Candidates should possess a NYS Perfusionist license, OR a limited permit if applicable. The job involves training staff, maintaining equipment, and ensuring patient safety under physician direction.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a CAAHEP accredited school of cardiovascular perfusion.
• New York State license/registration as a Perfusionist; limited permit may be issued temporarily.
• Ability to work under stressful emergency conditions and as part of a surgical team.
• Welcoming all applicants; no experience required.

Responsibilities

• Prepares operating room by setting up extracorporeal pump and related supplies for open heart surgery.
• Operates the extracorporeal pump and monitors perfusion parameters during procedures.
• Monitors temperature, blood chemistry and gas exchanges; adjusts drug dilutions as directed.
• Maintains equipment, calibrates pump flows, and performs routine repairs/adjustments as needed.
• Trains house staff and nursing personnel in use of pump oxygenator and related equipment.
• Keeps accurate records of perfusion metrics and maintains inventory of replaceable items.
