Job summary

Mass General Brigham's The Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Inc. is seeking a Patient Care Assistant to support licensed personnel in activities of daily living, monitor vital signs, and assist with patient comfort during night shifts at 75 Francis Street in Boston.

The role involves documenting care in the Electronic Health Record, aiding with transfers and 1:1 observation, and contributing to a collaborative care team while ensuring patient safety and comfort.

Responsibilities

• Performs patient care-related duties and clinical functions as assigned, including documenting point of care, vital signs, EKGs, bathing, and other sanitary needs; assists with ambulation and 1:1 observation; supports RNs and physicians during exams and treatments.
• Completes documentation such as height, weight, intake of fluids/food, outputs, and blood glucose in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
• Ensures patient rooms are stocked, equipped, and cleaned; follows admission and discharge procedures and communicates patient status to the responsible party.
• Interacts effectively with patients, visitors, and care team; fosters a collaborative, professional environment; communicates with nursing staff in a timely manner.
• Provides leadership to the PCA team, including training, mentoring, coordinating department orientation, and participating in interview processes for new PCAs.

Essential Functions

• Performs patient care-related duties and clinical functions as assigned, including, but not limited to, performing and documenting point of care, vital signs, EKGs, bathing and other sanitary needs of patients, transferring and assisting with ambulation of patients, 1:1 patient observation for safety purposes, and phlebotomy. Assist RNs and physicians with other exams and treatments as required.
• Completes all documentation such as height, weight, intake of fluids and food, output of urine/stool/vomit/other drainage, and blood glucose results in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
• Ensures that patient rooms are stocked, equipped, and cleaned appropriately, as needs indicate and as patient volumes change.
• Follows facility admission and discharge procedures and communicates patient admission to the responsible party.
• Interacts effectively with patients, visitors, and other care team members.
• Fosters a positive, collaborative team environment that promotes teamwork and professional growth.
• Communicates with nursing staff effectively and in a timely manner regarding issues related to patient care and condition.
• Provides leadership to the PCA team, including training, mentoring, coordinating department orientation, and performance guidance. Participates in the interview process for new PCAs.
• Assists the Nursing Director or the Resource Nurse with shift schedules and/or payroll as designated.
• Assigns tasks and responsibilities to team members, ensuring proper workload distribution and effective resource utilization.
• Assists in complex unit-based procedures and provides clinical oversight for quality control programs.
