Job summary

Second Baptist Church in rural southern Illinois is seeking a Lead Pastor to join a team of elders and carry the primary Sunday preaching and shepherding burden. The role centers on biblical exposition, doctrinal clarity, and leadership of a small staff within a cooperative elder model.

The candidate will work to equip the saints for gospel-centered engagement in their communities, maintain unity among nearby churches, and uphold the church’s faith and mission as part of a multi-elder leadership.

Qualifications

• Lead Pastor must meet overseer/elder/pastor qualifications per 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9, 1 Peter 5:1-4.
• Must be in full agreement with the church’s Statement of Faith.
• Strong gospel-centered preaching with doctrinal clarity applied to life.
• Willing to work as part of a team and lead elders.

Responsibilities

• Do the lion’s share of Sunday preaching and provide biblical exposition.
• Lead the elder team as first among equals and guide church direction.
• Engage in soul care of church members and oversee staff rhythms.
• Foster gospel-centered engagement in local and statewide church relationships.
