Job summary

Georgia Baptist Mission Board invites qualified candidates to serve as pastor and chief under-shepherd of a local Baptist church. The role focuses on communicating God’s Word, spiritual care, and biblical leadership to shepherd the congregation.

The pastor will oversee staff, guide church programs, and cast vision for ministry and growth while equipping members to do ministry. Strong preaching, counseling, and prayer life are essential, as is character of integrity and pastoral shepherding.

Qualifications

• Converted and called to the pastoral ministry.
• Licensed and ordained as a minister of the Gospel and authorized to preach, administer ordinances and perform ministerial duties.
• Spiritual maturity and integrity.

Responsibilities

• Proclaim the Word of God in a regular pulpit ministry
• Oversee pastoral staff and provide directions for church programs
• Provide leadership and vision for church growth and structure
• Equip the congregation to do the work of the ministry
• Preach, teach, counsel, and model spiritual disciplines
• Spend significant time in prayer and Bible study
• Pastoral visitation, counseling, and support for members
• Officiate weddings and funerals
• Oversee church discipline and promote unity
• Engage in evangelism and outreach activities
• Manage church finances with integrity
• Collaborate with committees and denominational leaders
• Lead in observance of the ordinances and sacraments
• Coordinate with denominational and civic matters
• Vacation and sick leave as provided by the church
