Job summary

Sycamore Baptist Church in Decatur, TX is seeking a Lead Pastor to provide spiritual leadership through preaching, teaching, and shepherding the congregation. This full or bi-vocational role requires someone who can faithfully teach God’s Word, disciple members, and build lasting relationships within the community.

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of pastoral experience, a solid biblical background, and a heart for discipleship and healthy leadership development.

Qualifications

• Meets biblical qualifications for a pastor per 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1.
• Bachelor’s degree in theological or ministry-related field, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of pastoral or ministry experience.
• Clear growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
• Strong biblical teaching and communication ability.
• Commitment to teaching Scripture faithfully and contextually.
• Heart for discipleship and spiritual formation.
• Demonstrated leadership and ability to develop others.
• High character, humility, and integrity.

Responsibilities

• Deliver biblically sound, engaging sermons with verse-by-verse teaching.
• Provide vision aligned with the church mission and foster discipleship.
• Shepherd and care for the congregation and be relational and present.
• Develop ministry leaders and promote shared ministry models.
• Strengthen ministry to youth and families and build a sustainable youth program.
• Encourage outreach and community engagement.
• Grow a healthy, engaged church body and align resources with mission.
