Job summary

County of Santa Clara is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to perform operations across county parks and open space areas. You will operate bulldozers, loaders, excavators, and other heavy machinery to construct, restore, and maintain park facilities and trails.

The role includes minor repairs, safety inspections, and record-keeping. A Class A CDL with Tanker endorsement, Forklift certification within six months, and LiveScan clearance are required.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience operating heavy equipment and transporting equipment requiring a Class A CDL.
• Possession of a Class A CDL with Tanker endorsement and no restrictions.
• Forklift Operator certification within six months of appointment.
• May be required to complete basic wildland fire training.
• LiveScan background investigation clearance.
• Ability to travel to alternate locations in the course of work.

Responsibilities

• Operates a variety of heavy equipment including bulldozers, tractors, graders, trucks, loaders, water trucks, and excavators to construct, maintain, and repair park facilities and open spaces.
• Inspects job sites for hazards and ensures safe operation of equipment.
• Performs minor repairs and routine maintenance on heavy equipment.
• Maintains paper and electronic records of work performed and equipment used.
• Operates equipment for park fire prevention practices and post-fire cleanup operations.
