Qualifications

• Must pass background check, fingerprinting, drug test, medical examination, and random drug testing.
• Physical ability to climb into equipment, bend, stoop, kneel, lift up to 50 lbs, and work on rough terrain.
• Experience: Either nine (9) months as a Construction Equipment Worker or two (2) years operating medium and/or heavy equipment in public works settings.

Job Summary

The Department of Public Works is recruiting Equipment Operators to operate medium construction equipment such as motor graders, wheel loaders, and snowplows on roadway, flood control, airport, landfill maintenance, and construction projects. Operators may be assigned to heavy‑duty equipment as needed.

• Occasionally operate heavy‑duty equipment as required.

Benefits & Bonuses

• Recruitment Bonus: up to $2,000 ($1,000 upon hire and $1,000 upon completion of 2,080 service hours).
• Referral Bonus: up to $750 per referral ($250 upon hire and $500 upon completion of 2,080 hours).
• Remote Assignment Bonus: up to $2,000 ($500 upon hire, $500 upon completion of 2,080 hours, and $1,000 upon completion of an additional 2,080 hours) for eligible remote yards.

Eligibility & Requirements

• Valid Class B (or higher) Driver’s License with tanker endorsement and no restrictions for air brakes or manual transmission.
• For positions requiring Class A, additional endorsements may be required.
• Must pass background check, fingerprinting, drug test, medical examination, and random drug testing.
• Must be able to respond to assigned yards within 60 minutes for valley and desert yards or 45 minutes for mountain yards.
• Physical ability to climb into equipment, bend, stoop, kneel, lift up to 50 lbs, and work on rough terrain.
• License endorsement requirements: tanker, air brakes, manual transmission with no restrictions.
• Experience: Either nine (9) months as a Construction Equipment Worker or two (2) years operating medium and/or heavy equipment in public works settings.
