Job summary

Lincoln Electric in Plymouth, MI is seeking a Senior Panel Build Technician to assemble, wire, and test industrial electrical control panels and subassemblies used in complex systems. You will interpret schematics, BOMs, and diagrams, and ensure safety and quality standards are met.

Mentoring peers and overseeing less experienced team members are essential parts of the role, with emphasis on accuracy and adherence to UL508A and NEC standards.

Qualifications

• Experience in electrical assembly and industrial wiring.

• Familiarity with UL508A/NEC requirements is preferred.
• Mentoring and training of junior technicians is expected.
• Equivalent combination of education and panel build/manufacturing experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Assemble and wire electrical control panels following schematics and BOMs.
• Mount and secure electrical components (relays, contactors, PLCs, VFDs).
• Terminate wires, route and bundle to workmanship standards.
• Perform continuity, functional and safety checks on assemblies.
• Inspect builds for quality and labeling accuracy per standards.
• Troubleshoot issues and implement corrective actions.
• Read and interpret schematics, blueprints and BOMs; update as-built docs.
• Use hand and power tools to assemble panels.
• Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and QC inspectors to resolve build discrepancies.
• Support material handling, receiving, and general shop activities as needed.
• Train and mentor others to maintain quality and compliance.

Position Summary

The Senior Panel Build Technician is responsible for assembling, wiring, and testing industrial electrical control panels and electronic subassemblies used in industrial systems. This includes interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and bills of materials; mounting and connecting components; and ensuring panels meet quality, safety, and performance specifications. The Senior Panel Build Technician will be responsible for mentoring and training other team members regarding the build process and work instructions as well as overseeing the contributions of the less experienced build technicians.

Key Responsibilities

• Assemble and wire electrical control panels following schematics, wiring diagrams, and layout drawings.
• Mount, connect, and secure electrical/electronic components (relays, breakers, PLCs, power supplies, VFDs, sensors, terminals).
• Cut, strip, crimp, route, and bundle wires to meet wiring and workmanship standards.
• Conduct continuity, functional, and safety checks on completed assemblies.
• Inspect builds for quality, labeling accuracy, and compliance with UL508A/NEC requirements.
• Troubleshoot wiring or component issues and implement corrective actions.
• Read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and BOMs; maintain as-built documentation.
• Operate hand tools and power tools (drills, strippers, crimpers, torque tools).
• Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and QC inspectors to resolve build discrepancies.
• Support material handling, receiving, kitting, and general shop activities when needed.
• Train, mentor and oversee the work of others to ensure quality and compliance to standards.

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in electrical assembly, industrial wiring, or control panel build.
• Technical certification Electrical Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, or a related field preferred. (preferred).
• Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Equivalent combination of education and extensive panel build/manufacturing experience may be considered.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Familiarity with standard control panel components (contactors, relays, VFDs, PLCs).
• Experience reading and interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and BOMs.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Experience mentoring, training, and developing technical employees.
• Basic understanding of UL508A, NEC, or related electrical standards (preferred).

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

Standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 40 lbs as needed. Work performed in a production/shop environment with exposure to noise, tools, and moving equipment.
