Job summary

OnTrac is hiring a Lead Package Handler in Ontario, CA to oversee offloading, loading, and sorting of packages. You will train new hires, support metrics, and uphold company values while ensuring safety and efficiency on the dock and with equipment.

The role requires leadership experience, at least 1 year in the industry, and ability to lift heavy packages. Part-time shifts run Friday–Monday, days may vary.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• At least 1 year of industry experience.
• 1 year of leadership experience preferred.
• Ability to regularly lift, push, and pull 25–35 lbs, occasionally up to 50 lbs and up to 150 lbs with a pallet jack or similar.
• Must be at least 18 years old.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload packages from trailers, conveyors, and sortation equipment.
• Sort, scan, and route parcels to designated areas based on destination or route.
• Provide guidance and direction to package handlers during shifts.
• Assist with onboarding and training new team members.
• Monitor workflow and balance labor to meet volume and service timelines.
• Reinforce safety practices and lifting techniques.
• Identify performance issues or operational concerns and communicate them.
• Serve as a point of contact for questions and escalation.

This position plays a crucial role in overseeing the offloading, loading, and sorting of packages for distribution. Our Package Handler Leads are the ultimate team players. They work closely with Area and Operations Managers to train new hires, support business metrics, and uphold company values.

Location: 41 E. Northern Stacks Dr., Minneapolis, MN

Compensation: $21/hour

Shift(s): Part-time, Friday through Monday from 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM (hours may change based on business needs)

What you need to bring:

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
• At least 1 year of industry experience.
• 1 year of leadership experience preferred.
• Ability to regularly lift, push, and pull 25 to 35 lbs, occasionally carry up to 50 lbs, and occasionally push or pull up to 150 lbs using a pallet jack or gaylords to transport large packages.
• You must be at least 18 years of age.

Your mission in motion:

• You will promote a safe work environment by enforcing company safety protocols, including dock, conveyor, and lockout/tagout procedures.
• You will train and guide package handlers, providing hands‑on demonstrations and ongoing performance feedback.
• You will oversee package handling, sorting, and inspection processes to ensure accuracy, prevent damage, and avoid misroutes.
• You will monitor equipment functionality, submit maintenance requests, and manage damaged freight according to company procedures.
• You will check in and check out third‑party drivers, verify credentials, and ensure proper documentation and manifest accuracy.

Your primary responsibilities:

• You will sort, scan, and route parcels to designated areas based on destination or route.
• You will provide guidance and direction to package handlers during assigned shifts.
• You will assist with onboarding and training new team members.

• You will reinforce safety practices, proper lifting techniques, and compliance with procedures.
• You will identify and communicate performance issues, productivity gaps, or operational concerns.
• You will serve as a point of contact for operational questions and issue escalation.

• You are comfortable providing direction to peers and supporting leadership initiatives.

Physical and work environment requirements:

Your working environment will primarily be in a warehouse setting, which may involve exposure to varying temperatures, noise, and moving equipment. You will engage in frequent physical activity, including standing, walking, lifting, and handling packages throughout your shift. You must have sufficient visual and auditory ability to safely navigate the warehouse, identify hazards, and communicate effectively in a noisy environment.
