Job summary

NYC Outward Bound Schools seeks a Lead Instructor to plan and deliver experiential outdoor education across Fishkill, NY and NYC locations. You will guide youth through hiking, low ropes, and rock climbing activities, ensuring a safe, inclusive learning environment for diverse groups.

The role requires remote and on-site work, with transportation from HQ in Long Island City and potential housing at Fishkill. A passion for equity and youth empowerment, plus outdoor certifications, are essential.

Qualifications

• Strong commitment to educational equity for BIPOC youth and anti-racist work.
• Able to lift 50 pounds and work outdoors in varying conditions.
• Experience in facilitating youth programming preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver outdoor adventure courses and rock climbing activities.
• Mentor and support instructors, modeling best practices in safety and engagement.
• Ensure safe, inclusive learning environments during overnight and day programs.
• Coordinate logistics, documentation, and debriefs for ongoing programs.
• Provide on-site supervision and participate in trainings and certifications.
