Job summary

MKS Instruments in Irvine seeks a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead FEA-driven design of opto-mechanical systems and tooling for high-precision optics used in semiconductor fabrication. You will plan, validate, and document mechanical designs, lead design reviews, and mentor engineers across disciplines, reporting to the Irvine Central Mechanical Engineering manager.

You will work with cross-functional teams to ensure robust, repeatable fixturing and tooling, while coordinating transitions

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering required.
• 7+ years in tooling/fixtures or precision systems.
• 5+ years in FEA with iterative design feedback.
• Proficient in ANSYS for design analysis.
• Proficient in SolidWorks and NX CAD.
• Ability to perform tolerance analysis for DFM/DFA.
• Mentor junior to senior engineers.
• Strong communication and project management skills.

Responsibilities

• Utilize ANSYS to perform STOP and sensitivity FEA.
• Design and document mechanical systems with NX/SolidWorks.
• Lead design reviews and manage multiple projects.
• Develop fixtures and tooling for high-precision optics.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams in Irvine.
