Job summary

Mindspan is seeking an engineer-scientist to design, execute, and optimize cellular activity imaging experiments at cellular resolution. You will lead voltage imaging and synaptic data collection from iPSC-derived neurons and brain slices, while evaluating gene expression systems and collaborating with computation teams.

The role emphasizes rigorous documentation, problem solving across disciplines, and iterative protocol development to advance brain research and imaging capabilities.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in bioengineering, neuroscience, biophysics, chemistry, biochemistry, materials science, or related field.
• Demonstrated expertise with neuronal activity recordings (electrophysiology, imaging).
• Hands-on experience with neural tissue handling, cell culture, histology, fluorescence microscopy.
• Ability to interpret neuronal dynamics from imaging data with strong data analysis skills.
• Proven track record of building and troubleshooting complex experimental systems.

Responsibilities

• Design, execute, and optimize cellular activity imaging experiments.
• Lead efforts to produce high-quality voltage imaging and synaptic data from iPSC neurons and brain slices.
• Characterize optogenetics and voltage sensor performance.
• Evaluate gene expression systems and analyze physiology data with Computation and Analysis team.
• Maintain detailed protocol records and train others with documented reasoning.
