Job summary

Pentangle Tech Services | P5 Group is seeking a Senior Optical Hardware Design Engineer in North Reading to own end-to-end optical system design. You will lead simulations, validate designs, and collaborate with suppliers to deliver robust, manufacturable solutions.

The role requires hands-on hardware integration, strong proficiency with Zemax/Code V, and a track record in imaging or illumination system optimization, with 5+ years in optical engineering. North Reading-based, on-site position.

Qualifications

• Requires a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Optics, Optical Engineering, Physics, or related field.
• At least 5 years of senior-level optical engineering experience.
• Proficiency with optical simulation tools (Zemax, Code V or equivalent).
• Hands-on hardware design experience with optical components and light paths.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop optical systems and components from source to sensor.
• Analyze and optimize optical trains for high performance.
• Perform optical simulations to predict and refine system behavior.
• Troubleshoot optical performance issues and drive corrective actions.
• Coordinate with suppliers and cross-functional teams for manufacturability and integration.
• Lead design reviews and validation activities for optical hardware.
• Estimate engineering effort, timelines, and scope for projects.
• Coordinate with test engineering, electrical engineering, and validation teams.
