Job description

You run our biggest events, and help train the people who run the rest--

A client has spent weeks planning an event that will feed thousands of their people. On the day, local food trucks, restaurants and service partners arrive to set up, a crew of 10 or more is waiting for direction, and the client is counting on it all going perfectly. You're the person who makes that happen.

You're onsite to welcome the client, run the floor, solve problems before guests notice them, and make sure every small business on site has a great day too. Between events, you help train and coach our onsite staff so every Off the Grid event runs to your standard.

If you've run the floor as a catering captain, banquet captain, FOH manager or private dining lead and you're ready for bigger events, keep reading.

What this role is not:
  • It's not a desk job. About 90% of your time is spent onsite at events and markets around the Bay Area.

  • It's not a sales or planning role. Our Catering Event Producers sell and plan each event with the client. You take the handoff and run it.

  • It's not a role where you do everything yourself. You lead a crew, delegate clearly, and build up the people around you.

  • It's not a cooking role. Our creators, the food trucks, restaurants and caterers we partner with, handle the food. Your job is to set them up to do their best work.

About Off the Grid

Founded in 2010, Off the Grid has pioneered food-driven community spaces through curated food experiences, temporary event production, and experiential elements. Best known for hosting some of the Bay Area's biggest recurring night markets, such as Fort Mason Night Market, Off the Grid brings local authenticity and operational excellence to small or large scale events. Our unique creator network continues to break ground by transforming everyday spaces into vibrant destinations for public and private experiences. Our values-centered approach creates meaningful opportunities for small businesses to thrive and communities to connect, designing unforgettable experiences that celebrate local talent and foster the sense of discovery and place that communities crave.

Our values
  • Be exceptional hosts. "Hospitality is present when something happens for you. It is absent when something happens to you." (Danny Meyer)

  • Strengthen local businesses. We don't just show up in a neighborhood and leave. Our work creates value for local businesses, so our partnerships get deeper over time.

  • Surface authentic uniqueness. Off the Grid should help people discover things: our customers, our spaces and each other.

  • Precision in execution. We plan before we act, we carry out what we planned, and we own the result for our guests and customers.

The role

As Lead Onsite Event Producer, you take the lead onsite at Off the Grid's largest and most complex events. You own each one from load-in until the last partner packs up. On the day, the client, the venue, our creators and our service partners all deal with you, and you lead a crew that can be 10 or more hourly staff, including staff from outside Off the Grid.

You're also a coach for the onsite staff. You help train new Onsite Event Producers, work alongside them at events, and share what you know so every event runs to the same standard, including the ones you aren't at.

Our Catering Event Producers plan each event with the client. You take their handoff and run it, then close it out afterward.

This role is for you if
  • Hospitality comes naturally to you. You greet the client warmly, read the room, and fix small things before anyone notices them.

  • Big events energize you. More vendors, more guests and more moving parts make you sharper, not more stressed.

  • You notice the details, then hand them off well. You build the plan, give every person a clear job and trust them to do it, while you keep the whole event in view.

  • You can keep five things moving at once. A late delivery, a venue question and a menu change in the same ten minutes doesn't rattle you. You bring a fix, not just the problem.

  • You love bringing a client's idea to life. They pictured it, and you make it real, ideally better than they imagined. Your default answer is "Yes, and."

  • You like making other people better. You explain why, not just what. You give feedback in the moment, and you're proud when someone you trained runs a great event without you.

  • You communicate clearly. Clients, venue managers, creators, service partners and your crew always know what's happening, because you told them, in person, by text or in your post-event report.

  • You've done this many times before. You've spent real time onsite at events and know what a smooth run-of-show feels like from the inside.

What you'll do
Before the event
  • Review the handoff from the Catering Event Producer and build the site plan and the load-in/load-out plan.

  • Confirm arrival times, site access and equipment needs with each creator and service partner ahead of event day.

  • Load, transport and unload equipment. That includes driving an Off the Grid box truck, after safety training.

When the client arrives
  • Welcome the client, walk the space together, and agree on timeline, layout and menu.

  • Stay visible and reachable all event long. Handle requests with a "Yes, and" mindset, and manage serving counts and any overages directly with the client.

  • Build relationships with clients and venue teams that bring them back for the next event.

Running the floor at our biggest events
  • Set up food trucks, restaurant and catering stations, tents and rentals safely so everything is ready for guests before service starts.

  • Manage creators and service partners, lines and service quality, and hold creators to our Creator Code of Conduct.

  • Direct the crew with pre-shift briefings, clear role assignments and break coverage.

  • Support our markets and business lunches when needed.

Training and coaching the onsite staff
  • Help train new Onsite Event Producers, including shadow shifts at your events and check‑ins as they start running events on their own.

  • Coach Onsite Event Producers with in-the‑moment feedback and a debrief after events.

  • Run inventory and quality audits, and share what you find so the next event goes better.

  • Suggest improvements to our onsite playbooks and checklists, based on what you see happening at events.

Keeping it safe, and closing the loop
  • Enforce food‑safety standards, support Fire Marshal and Health Inspector visits, and report incidents promptly.

  • Be the last to leave, and submit a same‑day post‑event report with photos.

What you bring
  • Onsite event experience (required): 3+ years in catering, events or hospitality, including at least 1 year leading onsite at large events (100+ guests) with a crew of 10 or more.

  • Coaching (preferred): You've trained or coached other staff.

  • Driving (required): A valid driver's license and a clean driving record. A standard license covers our box trucks (no CDL needed), and we provide safety training.

  • Transportation (required): Reliable transportation to and from home, the office and event sites. Parking is not guaranteed and is the employee's responsibility.

  • Availability: A flexible schedule that includes nights, weekends and holidays when events run.

  • Tools: Comfortable with Google Workspace, and you take clear notes.

  • Education: A bachelor's degree is a plus, not a requirement.

Pay & schedule
  • Employment type: Full‑time, hourly (non‑exempt).
