Job summary

Aalo Atomics is seeking a founding member of the welding engineering function to own process development, qualification, and automation efforts on the shop floor at our Austin headquarters. You will lead R&D into advanced welding modalities such as laser beam and electron beam to unlock performance and throughput beyond conventional welding.

Qualifications

• BS in Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
• 5+ years of welding engineering experience including process development and qualification.
• Hands-on GTAW experience on stainless steel pressure-boundary applications.
• Working knowledge of ASME BPVC Section IX or equivalent pressure systems code.
• Comfortable on the shop floor and able to evaluate welds in progress.

Responsibilities

• Develop, qualify, and optimize GTAW, GMAW, spray MIG, and emerging processes for stainless steel pressure vessels and piping.
• Own WPS/PQR documentation to ASME Section IX, AWS D1.6, or applicable codes.
• Lead zirconium welding procedure development under inert atmosphere.
• Develop PWHT cycles and interpret metallurgical outcomes.
• Evaluate LBW, EBW, PAW, and hybrid processes for vessel applications.
• Design parametric studies to build qualification datasets.
• Collaborate with vendors and national labs to stay at the forefront of welding tech.
• Build internal IP and documentation for future qualifications.
