The Lead Nuclear Medicine Technologist is responsible for the daily technical operation of the Nuclear Medicine Department and performing nuclear examinations. This role requires moderate independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative, along with guiding and training technologists for their development and growth.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain inventory of materials and supplies; recommend procurement as needed.
  • Provide instruction to technologists and auxiliary personnel through formal and informal education.
  • Assign work and participate in staff training.
  • Ensure proper operation and maintenance of all equipment and accessories.
  • Prepare schedules, manage timekeeping, and oversee 'on-call' coverage.
  • Maintain radiation safety standards throughout the department.
  • Perform radionuclide procedures, including organ imaging, function studies, and assisting physicians with radioisotope therapy under safety protocols.
  • Select and operate Nuclear Medicine equipment as directed.
  • Provide radiation protection for self and patients according to safety guidelines.
  • Prepare and administer radiopharmaceuticals; prepare radioactive tracer compounds.
  • Calibrate equipment and assay radionuclides.
  • Inspect radiopharmaceutical packages following state and NRC guidelines.
  • Keep records of radioisotope receipt, use, storage, and disposal per regulations.
  • Maintain cleanliness and contamination-free conditions in the department.
  • Follow NRC, State DEP, JCAHO guidelines and practices.
  • Evaluate images using PACS to ensure diagnostic quality and proper identification.
  • Rotate assignments in Nuclear Cardiology and PET/CT as needed.
  • Perform clerical duties, including use of EPIC, PACS, Teletracking, and other systems.
  • Cover scheduled shifts, including holidays and weekends; participate in on-call duties.
  • Greet patients and ensure quality patient care following A.I.D.E.T. standards.
  • Adhere to policies regarding employee ID, behavior, attendance, and punctuality.
  • Assess patient needs and modify care accordingly, considering age, culture, language, and impairments.
  • Follow organizational competencies and perform daily/monthly QA.
  • Other duties/projects as assigned.

Physical requirements include lifting at least 25 lbs., pushing/pulling 50 lbs., and standing for 6+ hours daily.

Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED; graduate of an approved School of Nuclear Medicine Technology.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in modality.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
Licenses and Certifications
  • ARRT(N) and/or CNMT Registry
  • Nuclear Medical Technologist NJ State License
  • AHA BLS Healthcare Provider Certification (within 60 days of hire)
