Job Description

Job Title: Lead Network Engineer

Start Date: Immediate

Contract Type: W2 Contract-to-Hire

The Lead Network Engineer will be responsible for architecting, standardizing, documenting, implementing, and supporting the network infrastructure for critical reliability and maximum uptime. This role will serve as a LAN/WAN expert and will entail recommending and supporting the selection, development, deployment, monitoring, maintenance, and enhancement of network technologies for both traditional network and Azure networking. The role will also be responsible for leading the network engineering group with direct reports. You will partner with Burwood team members and our premier healthcare client to deliver the following technical solutions:

  1. Design, implement, and maintain (break/fix) all network platform technologies including Cisco-based LAN, WAN, Wireless, VOIP, and Security.
  2. Establish and maintain the physical and logical architecture of all network components.
  3. Perform switching/routing, load balancing, and firewall administration.
  4. Diagnose and resolve complex configuration and troubleshooting issues within a multi-vendor, multi-site infrastructure.
  5. Ensure network fail-over capabilities between critical operational components and data centers.
  6. Manage and provide technical guidance or training to mid-level and junior staff of the network group.
  7. Handle escalations and resolve issues for mid-level and junior staff.
  8. Define standards and best practices for network solutions and maintaining the network including creating and documenting processes/procedures related to network design, monitoring, security, and disaster recovery.
  9. Establish, monitor, evaluate, and report key performance and key risk indicators (KPIs and KRIs) to provide leadership with visibility into the effectiveness of the Network Infrastructure.
  10. Monitor network operations to identify performance and capacity issues.
  11. Measure the volume and performance of network traffic.
  12. Identify utilization and performance issues.
  13. Develop plans and implement new technologies and services to satisfy capacity and performance requirements.

In addition, you will join a Center of Excellence where you’ll interact with your peers across the country to help develop best practices and future solutions.

Qualifications

WHO YOU ARE

As a highly skilled and certified network engineer, you possess strong proficiency in configuring, troubleshooting, and optimizing Layer 2 and Layer 3 protocols, as well as security protocols. Your extensive knowledge of TCP/IP network protocols and certifications such as CCNP, with additional expertise in ISO27001 and HITRUST, make you an invaluable asset to any team.

Experience:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in business, information systems, or related field.
  2. 10+ years of experience in Network Design or Network Engineering.
  3. Experience with Cisco Firepower and Secure Firewall Management Center.
  4. 7 or more years of experience administering complex network environments.
  5. 5 or more years of experience configuring Cisco IOS.
  6. 5 or more years of experience with Layer 2 and Layer 3 protocols.
  7. 2 or more years of experience with Azure Networking.
  8. VMware Velo Cloud SD-WAN experience a plus.
  9. Previous healthcare experience is a plus.

THE TECH STUFF

  1. Strong proficiency with the configuration, troubleshooting, proper operation, and best practices of Layer 2 protocols (i.e., Spanning-tree, 802.3ad Link Aggregation, 802.1q Trunking, LLDP/CDP, etc.), Layer 3 protocols (ARP, VRRP/HSRP, OSPF, OSPFv3, BGPv4), and Security protocols (IPsec and SSL with respect to VPN).
  2. Strong knowledge of TCP/IP network protocols (e.g., SSH, HTTP(S), SMTP, etc.), other than those above, and their proper operation.
  3. Ability to be on-call rotation for network support.
  4. Knowledge of ISO27001 is a plus.
  5. Knowledge of HITRUST is a plus.

Certification:

  1. Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) required.
  2. Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) is a plus.
  3. Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) is a plus.

Compensation packages at Burwood Group are based on various factors unique to each candidate including work location, skillset, experience, qualifications, and other job-related reasons. The estimated annual compensation for this role when it converts to full-time is $100k to $149k.
