Job Title: Lead Network Engineer

Start Date: Immediate

Onsite Work Location: Downers Grove, Illinois

Contract Type: W2 Contract-to-Hire

The Lead Network Engineer will be responsible for architecting, standardizing, documenting, implementing, and supporting the network infrastructure to ensure critical reliability and maximum uptime. This role will serve as a LAN/WAN expert, recommending and supporting the selection, development, deployment, monitoring, maintenance, and enhancement of network technologies for both traditional network and Azure networking. Additionally, you will lead the network engineering team with direct reports, collaborating with Burwood team members and our healthcare client to deliver technical solutions.

Responsibilities include:

1. Design, implement, and maintain all network platform technologies including Cisco-based LAN, WAN, Wireless, VOIP, and Security.
2. Establish and maintain the physical and logical architecture of all network components.
3. Perform switching/routing, load balancing, and firewall administration.
4. Diagnose and resolve complex configuration and troubleshooting issues within a multi-vendor, multi-site infrastructure.
5. Ensure network fail-over capabilities between critical operational components and data centers.
6. Manage and provide technical guidance or training to mid-level and junior staff of the network group.
7. Handle escalations and resolve issues for mid-level and junior staff.
8. Define standards and best practices for network solutions, including creating and documenting processes and procedures related to network design, monitoring, security, and disaster recovery.
9. Establish, monitor, evaluate, and report on key performance and risk indicators (KPIs and KRIs) to leadership.
10. Monitor network operations to identify performance and capacity issues.
11. Develop plans and implement new technologies and services to meet capacity and performance requirements.
12. Participate in a Center of Excellence to develop best practices and future solutions.

Qualifications

Who You Are

You are a highly skilled and certified network engineer with strong proficiency in configuring, troubleshooting, and optimizing Layer 2 and Layer 3 protocols, as well as security protocols. Your extensive knowledge of TCP/IP network protocols and certifications such as CCNP, along with expertise in ISO27001 and HITRUST, make you an invaluable asset to our team.

Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in business, information systems, or related field.
• 10+ years of experience in Network Design or Network Engineering.
• Experience with Cisco Firepower and Secure Firewall Management Center.
• 7+ years managing complex network environments.
• 5+ years configuring Cisco IOS.
• 5+ years working with Layer 2 and Layer 3 protocols.
• 2+ years experience with Azure Networking.
• Experience with VMware Velo Cloud SD-WAN and Megaport Cloud is a plus.
• Previous healthcare industry experience is a plus.

The Technical Skills

• Proficiency with Layer 2 protocols (e.g., Spanning-tree, 802.3ad, 802.1q, LLDP/CDP).
• Proficiency with Layer 3 protocols (ARP, VRRP/HSRP, OSPF, BGPv4).
• Knowledge of security protocols (IPsec, SSL VPNs).
• Strong understanding of TCP/IP protocols (SSH, HTTP(S), SMTP).
• Ability to participate in on-call support rotation.
• Knowledge of ISO27001 and HITRUST is a plus.

Certifications:

• Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) required.
• CCIE and CISSP certifications are a plus.
