Job summary

University of Connecticut’s Connecticut Education Network (CEN) seeks a senior network engineer to lead design, deployment, and operations of a carrier‑grade IP/MPLS infrastructure across CT facilities. You will supervise staff, advance security, reliability, and performance, and collaborate with education, government, and healthcare customers.

Qualifications

  • Must be US Citizen or Green Card holder.
  • Bachelor’s degree and six years of directly related experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience.
  • Three (3) years’ total experience as network lead/senior engineer in a service provider/R&E environment.
  • Solid knowledge of BGP, IS-IS, IPv6, OSPF, MPLS, TE, QinQ, G.8032, 802.3ad, 802.3ag, Y.1731.
  • Experience with VPNs (L2VPNs, Martini, Kompella, RFC2547, VPLS, EVPN).
  • Proven use of VRFs in complex networks.
  • Strong outage resolution and post-incident review history.
  • Effective communication and writing skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design, implementation, and strategy for the CT Education Network.
  • Oversee network architecture, capacity, and security planning.
  • Manage incidents, outages, and service requests with RCA.
  • Plan software/firmware upgrades and maintain uptime.
  • Coordinate capacity planning and lifecycle management.
  • Develop automation/scripts to optimize operations and telemetry.
  • Provide project management support for provisioning and expansions.
  • Mentor junior staff and disseminate best practices.
