Job summary

The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks a Senior Navigation Analyst to advance mathematical physics-based models for extremely demanding navigation systems used in critical US Navy missions.

Join a team of engineers, physicists and mathematicians focusing on error analysis and system performance, mentoring others and presenting findings to government sponsors. A security clearance will be pursued as required.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Physics, Engineering or similar technical field.
At least 7 years of relevant experience developing and using mathematical/physics-based models for military applications.
Experience with performance analysis for maritime navigation or missile guidance systems.
Experience modeling navigation sensors including IMUs, GPS, or navigational sonars (DVL, CNAV).
Experience with Kalman filters and/or modern system estimation and multi-sensor data fusion methods.
Experience with MATLAB or Python.
Strong written and verbal communication for presenting complex technical work to sponsors.
Willingness to travel to US Navy facilities and obtain security clearances.

Responsibilities

Master mathematical models governing inertial navigation systems.
Derive physics-based models for interaction of navigation aids.
Assess fidelity of navigation systems and communicate conclusions to decision-makers.
Mentor colleagues in mathematical physics-based navigation modeling.
