Carlson Tool & Manufacturing Corp. in Cedarburg, WI is seeking an experienced Lead Tool Maker to lead and mentor a team of 70+ machinists and toolmakers in a climate-controlled facility.

You will design, build, refurbish, and reverse engineer plastic injection molds for Automotive, Medical, Plastic Packaging, Battery, and more, guiding projects and mentoring apprentices — with hands-on toolmaking and collaboration with a seasoned team.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience as a Journeyman Tool & Die Maker.
• Proven expertise in plastic injection molds.
• Ability to train and mentor others.
• Ability to read, interpret, and analyze engineering designs and CAD models.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of Tool Makers and apprentices.
• Design, build, refurbish, and reverse engineer plastic injection molds.
• Collaborate with project leaders to guide projects through the shop.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area from start to finish.

What You'll Do:

You'll play a key role in the design, build, refurbishment, and reverse engineering of plastic injection molds that serve industries like Automotive, Medical, Plastic Packaging, Battery, and beyond. As a Lead Tool Maker, you'll guide projects through the shop without the need to write plans or purchase material. You'll focus on toolmaking while providing hands-on direction to fellow Tool Makers and mentoring apprentices - all in collaboration with a supportive and experienced team.

A Day in the Life:

• Collaborate with project leader(s) and direct our team of Tool Makers
• Provide guidance, mentorship, and hands-on training to apprentices and team members
• Analyze specifications, set up and operate machine tools, and fit/assemble components to fabricate and repair metalworking dies
• Lead plastic injection mold builds from start to finish
• Keep work areas clean, safe, and organized
