Job summary

Vanguard seeks a Lead Machine Learning Engineer to shape and drive AI/ML strategies within the Financial Advisory Services division. You will oversee a team delivering production-ready AI capabilities, collaborating across Product Management, Data Science, Architecture, and Technology to ensure scalable, compliant solutions.

The role requires 8+ years in ML/engineering, strong leadership, and the ability to translate complex concepts into business value.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in CS/DS/Engineering with graduate degree preferred.
• 8+ years in ML, data engineering, or software development.
• Proven leadership in managing technical teams and scalable AI solutions.
• Strong communication to translate tech into business value.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership in AI/ML hiring, coaching, and performance management.
• Collaborate with Architects to translate strategic initiatives into roadmaps and workstreams.
• Lead cross-functional teams to deliver production-ready AI capabilities.
• Establish engineering best practices, reusable frameworks, and platform capabilities.
• Oversee data, feature, and model pipelines for scalable AI solutions.
• Apply ML, statistics, optimization, and experimentation to operationalize capabilities.
• Evaluate data quality and model inputs with Data Science teams.
• Drive automation, observability, and incident management for AI systems.
• Ensure adherence to governance, security, risk, and model lifecycle standards.
• Engage stakeholders to understand objectives and translate requirements into solutions.
• Support planning, prioritization, and execution of strategic objectives.
• Establish scalable operating models and service standards for AI products.
• Communicate strategies and progress to senior leadership.
• Participate in special projects and other duties as needed.
