Vanguard seeks a Lead Machine Learning Engineer to guide a team designing, deploying, and scaling AI/ML solutions for the Financial Advisory Services business. You will partner with Product Management, Data Science, Architecture, and Technology to deliver enterprise-grade capabilities.

Qualifications

• Eight+ years in machine learning, data engineering, or related roles with leadership experience.
• Strong understanding of ML algorithms, statistical modeling, data analysis and optimization.
• Experience designing scalable data pipelines and deploying models in production.
• Excellent leadership and mentoring abilities.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership in hiring, coaching, performance management, and talent development within the AI/ML team.
• Collaborate with Architects to define AI/ML solution architectures aligned with business goals.
• Lead cross-functional teams to deliver AI solutions from concept to production.
• Establish engineering best practices and reusable frameworks to improve scalability and delivery.
• Oversee data/feature/model pipelines for reliable AI/ML solutions.
• Apply ML, statistics and experimentation to operationalize predictive capabilities.
• Ensure governance, security and regulatory standards throughout the lifecycle.
• Engage with stakeholders to translate complex requirements into technical solutions.

About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and strategic Lead Machine Learning Engineer to join Vanguard's dynamic team. This leadership role involves guiding a team of talented engineers responsible for designing, building, deploying, and scaling advanced AI and machine learning solutions that underpin our Financial Advisory Services (FAS) business. The ideal candidate will partner closely with cross-functional teams—including Product Management, Data Science, Architecture, and Technology—to deliver robust, scalable, and reliable AI capabilities that align with enterprise standards and strategic objectives.

The role demands a hands‑on leader who can oversee end-to-end solution delivery, from architectural planning to implementation, deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement. The successful candidate will drive innovation, operational excellence, and governance practices to ensure that AI/ML solutions are not only effective but also compliant with security, risk, and regulatory requirements. Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field; a graduate degree is preferred.
• Minimum of eight years of relevant experience in machine learning, data engineering, or related roles, with a proven track record of leading technical teams and delivering complex AI solutions.
• Strong expertise in machine learning algorithms, statistical modeling, data analysis, and optimization techniques.
• Extensive experience in designing scalable data pipelines, feature engineering, and deploying machine learning models in production environments.
• Excellent leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to mentor and develop engineering teams.
• Deep understanding of enterprise architecture, cloud platforms, and best practices for AI/ML deployment and governance.
• Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and executive leadership.

• Oversee the design, implementation, and continuous evolution of data, feature, and model pipelines to support reliable, scalable AI/ML solutions.
• Apply expertise in machine learning, statistics, and experimentation methodologies to operationalize predictive and decision-support capabilities.
• Evaluate data quality, feature readiness, and model inputs in collaboration with Data Science teams to ensure robust model development and deployment.
• Drive operational excellence through automation, observability, monitoring, incident management, and continuous improvement practices for AI/ML systems.
• Ensure compliance with enterprise governance, security, risk, and regulatory standards throughout the AI/ML lifecycle.
• Engage with business and technology stakeholders to understand objectives, assess opportunities, and translate complex requirements into actionable technical solutions.
• Support departmental planning, prioritization, and execution of strategic initiatives, balancing delivery commitments with operational needs.
• Establish scalable operating models, support processes, and service standards that ensure the long-term sustainability of AI/ML products and platforms.
• Communicate technical strategies, solution proposals, project progress, and business impact effectively to senior leadership and stakeholders.
• Participate in special projects and undertake additional duties as assigned to support organizational growth and innovation.
