Job summary

Huntsville Hospital Health System is seeking a Medical Technologist to perform repetitive and complex laboratory analyses and to interpret data considering physiological factors that affect test results. The role includes designing, evaluating and implementing new methods and supervising the lab section/shift in the supervisor's absence.

Qualified candidates will hold ASCP/AMT/AAB certification within 6 months of hire and maintain recertification every 3 years if applicable.

Qualifications

• Certification from a nationally recognized credentialing agency (ASCP, AMT, or AAB) within 6 months of hire.
• Recertification required every 3 years if certification obtained on/after 1/1/2004; no expiry for earlier certs.

Overview

Performs repetitive and complex laboratory analyses. Correlates and interprets laboratory data based on knowledge of physiological conditions affecting test results. Designs, evaluates and implements new methods. Supervises a laboratory section/shift in the absence of the supervisor.

Qualifications

Education: Certification from a nationally recognized credentialing agency, i.e., ASCP, AMT or AAB within 6 months of hire. Recertification is required every 3 years if certification was obtained on 1/1/2004 or after. Certification does not expire for individuals certified prior to 1/1/2004.

Experience: Four or more years experience as a medical technologist in the lab section/shift strongly preferred.

Additional Skills/Abilities: Must have excellent communication skills with the ability to work in a fast paced environment, requiring prioritizing and changing tasks frequently and quickly. Must be able to maintain absolute confidentiality in the handling of patient information. Absolute integrity and accuracy in the identification and reporting of number and names. Must have the ability to make decisions concerning resources, technical problems, or other needs of the department with minimal direction.
