Job summary

Huntsville Hospital Health System is seeking a lab support specialist to assist the laboratory by receiving and processing requisitions and specimens, and by ordering specified tests in accordance with standard operating procedures. You will respond to phone requests and enter lab data into the computer, contributing to efficient lab operations.

The role emphasizes excellent communication, accuracy in patient data handling, confidentiality, and the ability to work in a fast-paced team setting;

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Associates degree with chemistry and biology hours preferred.
• MLA certification from a recognized agency (ASCP or AMT) preferred.
• Previous work experience strongly preferred; keyboarding 40 wpm preferred.

Qualifications

Education:High School diploma or GED required.

Education preferred: Associates Degree with a minimum of 6 semester hours of chemistry and 6 semester hours of biology preferred.

License, certification and/or registration: MLA certification from a nationally recognized credentialing agency (i.e. ASCP or AMT) preferred

Experience:Previous work experience strongly preferred. Keyboarding experience, 40 wpm preferred.

Additional Skills/Abilities:Candidate must have excellent communication skills with the ability to work in a fast paced, customer service oriented environment, requiring prioritizing and changing tasks frequently and quickly. Must be able to maintain absolute confidentiality in the handling of patient information. Able to work in a high stress environment with little/no downtime. Must be able to work in a team setting and maintain absolute confidentiality in the handling of patient information. Absolute integrity and accuracy in patient identification process. Position may require flexibility related to the end of shift as shift end time may vary with workload.
