Jobtailor in Marlborough, MA seeks an experienced laboratory supervisor to lead a medical laboratory section and oversee complex test procedures. The role requires coordinating staff across benches and shifts, evaluating performance, and ensuring quality control compliance.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology with ASCP certification preferred and at least five years of leadership experience, including interview and disciplinary responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution.
  • Five years of related experience with demonstrated leadership skills.
  • ASCP certification as a Medical Technologist is preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted unless certification, licensure, or registration is required.
  • Available for 40 hours per week on the night shift, 11pm–7:30am.
  • Every other holiday and every third weekend schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the work of others as assigned in a medical laboratory section
  • Perform and interpret chemical, microscopic, and bacteriologic tests, including highly complex tests
  • Interview prospective laboratory candidates and recommend selections to the Manager
  • Evaluate new-hire performance and conduct employee performance reviews
  • Schedule employees across laboratory benches and shifts
  • Review work for completeness and quality and take corrective action as needed
  • Discuss performance issues and recommend disciplinary action to the Manager
  • Guide Medical Technologist I’s and Medical Lab Technicians in interpreting complex or unusual test results
  • Correlate clinical test results with patient history, diagnosis, and clinical condition
  • Troubleshoot testing-process discrepancies
  • Develop new tests and quality procedures
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory quality-control, safety, and testing policies
  • Maintain equipment, including preventative maintenance and complex troubleshooting, repair, and modification
  • Assist with new equipment rollouts and instruct staff on equipment and procedure operation
  • Instruct students in clinical laboratory operations and procedures
  • Maintain accurate test records using computer-based systems
