Job summary

Boulder Centre for Orthopedics & Spine is seeking a detail-oriented Medical Scribe to support our clinical team in a fast-paced outpatient setting. You will document patient visits in real time, maintain accurate EHR records, and assist physicians with timely, compliant documentation.

This onsite role offers a Monday–Friday schedule with no evenings or on-call responsibilities, competitive hourly pay, and holiday pay eligibility.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least one year of medical setting experience as a Medical Scribe or Medical Assistant; OR externship completion.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment in a clinical environment.
  • Comfort learning and working with electronic health records (EHR).

Responsibilities

  • Document patient visits and procedures in real time in the EHR.
  • Record patient histories, physical examinations, diagnoses, treatments, and follow-up instructions.
  • Record physician documentation, including patient education and explanations of treatment risks and benefits.
  • Document physician-dictated diagnoses, prescriptions, treatment plans, and instructions.
  • Ensure clinical data, laboratory results, and interpretations are accurately recorded.
  • Alert the physician when documentation is incomplete.
  • Review documentation for accuracy, spelling, punctuation, grammar, and completeness.
  • Identify potential documentation errors and work with physician to correct them.

Boulder Centre for Orthopedics & Spine is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Medical Scribe to join our Clinical team. In this role, you’ll work closely with our physicians in a fast-paced outpatient orthopedic setting, providing real-time documentation and administrative support that allows our providers to focus on what matters most: caring for our patients.

The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, and comfortable working in an electronic health record (EHR). You’ll play an important role in keeping the clinic running smoothly by anticipating physician needs, maintaining accurate documentation, and handling sensitive patient information with professionalism and discretion.

Enjoy a predictable Monday–Friday clinic schedule with no evenings, weekends, holidays, or on-call responsibilities. Our outpatient orthopedic clinics are closed for 7 major holidays, with holiday pay available to eligible employees.

What You'll Do

As a Medical Scribe, you will play an important role in keeping our clinics running efficiently and ensuring our patients' medical records are accurate and complete.

Clinical Documentation

  • Accurately and thoroughly document patient visits and procedures in the electronic health record (EHR) in real time.
  • Document patient medical histories, physical examinations, diagnoses, treatments, procedures, and follow-up instructions.
  • Record physician and physician assistant documentation, including patient education and explanations of treatment risks and benefits.
  • Document physician-dictated diagnoses, prescriptions, treatment plans, and instructions for patients and families.
  • Ensure clinical data, laboratory results, diagnostic testing, and physician interpretations are accurately recorded in the medical record.
  • Alert the physician when documentation or charts are incomplete.
  • Review medical documentation for accuracy, spelling, punctuation, grammar, and completeness.
  • Identify potential documentation errors or inconsistencies and work with the physician to correct them in accordance with established procedures.

Physician & Clinic Support

  • Anticipate physician needs and help facilitate an efficient flow of the clinic.
  • Research referring physician contact information and assist with coordinating referrals.
  • Prepare operative reports and other medical documentation as needed.
  • Make phone calls and complete other clerical tasks to support the physician and clinical team.
  • Assist with patient follow-up and compliance tracking.
  • Collect, organize, and maintain data for physician quality reporting and other quality improvement initiatives.

Compliance & Professional Responsibilities

  • Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information and comply with HIPAA and all applicable privacy and regulatory requirements.
  • Follow established standards for medical documentation and recordkeeping.
  • Attend training related to EHR/IT systems, HIPAA, legal and regulatory compliance, billing and coding, and other areas relevant to the role.
  • Quickly learn and apply new information, processes, and technology.
  • Follow all organizational policies and procedures, including our Code of Conduct and Mission, Vision, and Values.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least one year of recent experience in a medical setting as a Medical Scribe or Medical Assistant; OR documented completion of an externship in a medical office.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and anticipate the needs of physicians.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment in a clinical environment.
  • Comfort learning and working with electronic health records and other technology.

Preferred:

  • Some college coursework.
  • Orthopedic or other specialty-clinic experience.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology, billing, coding, or clinical documentation.
