Job summary

Piedmont Columbus Midtown is seeking a Lead Medical Physicist to provide physics services for planning and delivering radiation therapy in collaboration with radiation oncologists, dosimetrists and therapists.

The role includes QA oversight, clinical leadership, and mentoring of staff, residents, and students, while maintaining regulatory compliance and documentation for all equipment and treatment programs.

Qualifications

• Minimum MS in Medical Physics or related discipline.
• Five years of clinical experience as a medical physicist in a radiation therapy department.
• Board Certified by the American Board of Radiology in Therapeutic Radiation Physics; ability to be listed as an authorized user on the Georgia Radioactive Material Licenses; participation in ABR Maintenance of Certification.

Responsibilities

• Works collaboratively with radiation oncologists, dosimetrists, and therapists to provide technical expertise for radiation oncology treatments (external beam, brachytherapy, radiosurgery, radiopharmaceuticals).
• Performs QA checks on all equipment including linear accelerators, CT scanners, treatment planning systems, and brachytherapy sources per AAPM and regulatory standards.
• Maintains documentation of commissioning, acceptance, and QA activities and makes these available for review.
• Maintains expertise in treatment planning and delivery hardware/software; performs QA checks and peer reviews of treatment plans.
• Performs physics chart checks during patient care; suggests policy/procedure updates; oversees technical aspects of delivery.
• Provides staff in-services and radiation safety education; mentors medical physics residents and dosimetry/radiation therapy students.
• Participates in medical physics/radiation oncology initiatives and attends staff meetings to support program growth.
