Job summary

Cardinal Health seeks a Medical Physicist to support safe and accurate radiation therapy planning, delivery, and QA at the Casper, WY facility. You will calibrate equipment, oversee dose distributions, safety programs, and regulatory compliance within a collaborative oncology team.

Qualifications

  • ABR Continuing Medical Education standards preferred.
  • Advanced degree (MS/PhD/DMP) in Medical Physics or related field preferred.
  • ABR certification or eligibility in Therapeutic Medical Physics.
  • ABR certification in Therapeutic Radiological Physics preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Calibrate therapy equipment for accurate radiation dose delivery.
  • Direct determination of radiation dose distributions in patients.
  • Direct the acceptance testing of new equipment and treatment devices.
  • Direct the design and construction of patient treatment aids or special devices.
  • Direct the radiation safety program for the radiation oncology department.
  • Participate in equipment planning and evaluation, program planning, marketing, staff review and budget preparation.
  • Maintain records for JCAHO, NRC and other regulatory agencies.
  • Review and approve department policies and procedures.
  • Develop policies and procedures related to radiation safety and radiation oncology physics.
  • Provide consultation for personnel radiation exposure as needed.
  • Design and implement pertinent aspects of the quality management program that involve external beam radiotherapy equipment and therapeutic radioisotopes.
  • Manage the medical physics service to meet established standards.
  • Evaluate new technologies and implement as needed.
  • Consult with radiation oncologists concerning patient doses and optimization of plans.
  • Provide technical direction of radiation oncology staff as specified by the department medical director.
  • Serve as focal point for machine maintenance and repair.
  • Monitor equipment to ensure consistent outputs and maintenance routines.
  • Troubleshoot hardware/software issues as needed.
  • Attend regularly and punctually.
  • Contribute to team effort by achieving related results.
  • Ensure processing/reporting deadlines are met.
  • Perform other functions as required by management.

Education

Masters, PhD or DMP in Medical Physics or related field
ABR certification or eligible to receive ABR certification in Therapeutic Medical Physics
Certification by the American Board of Radiology in Therapeutic Radiological Physics and Radiological Physics
ABR Standard for Continuing Medical Education, preferred
