Job summary

St. Mark's Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah seeks a Lead Medical Laboratory Scientist to guide the Laboratory team in blood testing, antibody screening, cross-matching, and adopting new testing methods.

You will oversee automated analyzers and manual testing, mentor staff, ensure quality and patient safety, and collaborate with nursing staff and physicians to optimize testing workflows.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology (MT), MLS, or related sciences including a practical training program.
• Nationally recognized certification as a Medical Technologist (MT/MLS or MLT) from ASCP or equivalent.
• 3-5 years of laboratory experience.
• American Red Cross or American Heart Association Basic Life Support Course (BLS or BCLS) and Certification.

Responsibilities

• Receive blood specimens, perform blood tests, and study morphology of blood components.
• Perform routine or special laboratory tests using automated equipment, manual testing, and microscopic analysis.
• Maintain and use laboratory equipment including automated analyzers, chemistry analyzers, ion-specific electrodes, osmometers, and other analyzers.
• Perform antibody screening, antibody identification, and cross-matching procedures for transfusion.
• Notify nursing units and physicians of critical lab values.
• Implement new testing methods, products, and instrumentation to stay current with technology.
