Job summary

Upperline Health in Dayton, OH seeks a Lead Medical Assistant to support physicians in delivering complex health services within the clinic setting. This role primarily serves our Dayton clinic and involves a range of clinical and administrative tasks, with emphasis on podiatry/orthopedic care and X-ray support.

Ideal candidates will have prior Medical Assistant experience, podiatry/orthopedic exposure, and strong EMR skills (Athenahealth).

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Medical Assistant preferred.
  • Podiatry or Orthopedic clinic experience preferred.
  • X-ray experience is a plus.
  • Clinical care coordination or care management experience is ideal.
  • Experience assisting or caring for geriatric patients is preferred.
  • Excellent computer skills and strong knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Experience in an EMR, preferably Athenahealth.
  • Effective communicator with excellent grammar and interpersonal skills.
  • Reliable transportation required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Medical Assistant responsibilities in a podiatric/orthopedic clinic setting.
  • Place patients in exam rooms and prepare them for the physician.
  • Complete exam intake and review medical histories.
  • Record vitals and complete documentation in the EMR.
  • Assist physicians in exams and take x‑rays as needed.
  • Restock exam rooms and manage disposal of waste.
  • Clean and sterilize exam and x‑ray rooms daily.
  • Coordinate care across Upperline Plus patients and external referrals.
  • Travel to surrounding clinics to provide support if needed.

About the Medical Assistant role
Upperline Health is seeking an energetic, compassionate and driven Lead Medical Assistant to assist our physicians in delivering complex health services within the clinic setting. This person primarily will work in our Dayton, OH clinic and will be responsible for supporting the physician with a range of clinical and administrative tasks. Responsibilities will vary, and candidates must be flexible problem solvers and collaborative team players who are eager to learn and tackle problems. Ideal candidates will have podiatry or orthopedic experience and x-ray experience.

Lead Medical Assistant Responsibilities
  • Place patients in exam rooms; ensuring that they are ready and comfortable for their appointment with the physician
  • Complete exam intake, including but not limited to; reviewing medical history, social history, surgical history, and the history of present illness
  • Complete vitals and required documentation in clinic EMR (athenahealth)
  • Provide patient care under the direction of a podiatric physician including taking x-rays and assisting in the exam room as required
  • Perform daily administrative tasks such as re-stocking exam rooms and disposing of exam room trash
  • Responsible for cleaning and sterilizing exam and x-ray rooms both after each patient visit and at the end of each day
  • Equipment sterilization
  • Conduct health assessments and complete visits with Upperline Plus patients
  • Telephonic outreach and engagement with Upperline Plus patients to coordinate ongoing preventative care
  • Care coordination activities including, but not limited to; medical records requests, order management, appointment scheduling, managing patient care referrals, etc.
  • Travel to surrounding area clinics to provide support if needed
  • Other related duties as deemed necessary by Upperline Health
Upperline HealthMedical Assistant Qualifications:
  • Previous experience as a Medical Assistant preferred
  • Podiatry or Orthopedic clinic experience preferred
  • X-ray experience is a plusClinical care coordination or care management experience is ideal
  • Previous experience assisting or providing care to the geriatric patient population is preferred
  • Excellent computer skills and strong knowledge of medical terminology
  • Previous experience working in an EMR; preferably athenahealth
  • Must be an effective communicator with excellent grammar and interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional customer service highly preferred
  • Reliable transportation is required
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
  • Day-to-day work includes desk computer work and direct patient interaction, facility staff and physicians
  • Position may have extended periods of standing and to lift more than 5 lbs
  • The work environment is characteristic of a health care facility with air temperature control and moderate noise level
Compensation

Compensation is commensurate with compensation for similar positions in the region and based on prior training and experience.
