GE Aerospace is seeking an exceptional early-career researcher to join the Mechatronics Lab as a Lead Engineer in Niskayuna, NY. You will build deep expertise in mechatronics, lead projects from concept to engine hardware, and collaborate across GE teams and government programs.

You will develop foundational and leadership skills through structured development, mentorship, and independent research, progressing toward a recognized technical contributor role with long‑term impact in aerospace

Qualifications

Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, Aerospace Engineering, or a related STEM discipline.
Must be willing to work from the GE Aerospace Research office in Niskayuna, NY.
U.S. citizenship required for security clearance and ability to obtain a Top-Secret clearance.
U.S. export controls compliance and possession of status as a U.S. Person where required.

Responsibilities

Design mechanisms, end effectors, fixtures, and test rigs in 3D CAD, with drawings, BOMs, and tolerance analysis.
Build and debug prototype hardware from machined, 3D‑printed, and purchased components.
Integrate motors, encoders, load cells, limit switches, and data acquisition hardware into electromechanical systems.
Develop motion control and sensor‑feedback software for multi‑axis tools (homing, sequencing, force/position control, fault handling).
Model mechanism kinematics, system dynamics, and structural loads with hand calculations, MATLAB or Python, and finite element analysis.
Plan and run bench and engine‑hardware tests, log data, compare with predictions.
Follow safety, EH&S, and security requirements, including interlocks and stop logic.
Document designs, code, and test results for technical teams and customers.
Collaborate with robotics, sensing, materials, and manufacturing researchers and GE Aerospace shop teams to transition prototypes to field use.
