Job summary

Helion is seeking a mechanical project engineer to own capital projects from concept through startup in a fast-paced manufacturing setting. You will collaborate with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to deliver safe, reliable upgrades on the plant floor.

This role requires a strong background in mechanical systems, project management, and contractor coordination, with hands-on experience on-site and in design reviews to drive successful project handoffs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
• 5+ years in project engineering in manufacturing or heavy industry.
• Experience managing capital projects from design through startup.
• Ability to read P&IDs and mechanical layouts.
• Strong project management and communication skills.
• Comfortable on the plant floor and in the office.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical capital projects from planning through commissioning and handoff to operations.
• Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, and contractor performance.
• Develop equipment specifications and oversee installation of new manufacturing equipment.
• Coordinate equipment modifications, facility improvements, and process upgrades.
• Support equipment selection, layout, piping, HVAC, utilities, structural interfaces, and material handling systems.
• Review engineering drawings, vendor submittals, and technical documentation.
• Work closely with maintenance and operations to minimize downtime during installations.
• Drive project execution while ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards.
• Troubleshoot mechanical issues and implement long-term reliability improvements.
• Coordinate vendors, suppliers, and engineering firms throughout project execution.
• Support equipment startup, commissioning, testing, and performance validation.
