Job summary

Molex is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer - Optical Solutions in New Jersey to own mechanical designs for advanced optoelectronic packages. You will collaborate with R&D, product design, manufacturing, suppliers, and customers to meet optical, mechanical, and Telcordia reliability requirements.

Responsibilities include leading laser package design, optimizing optical subassemblies, and ensuring DFMs for high-yield production.

Qualifications

Masters in Mechanical Engineering required.
10+ years R&D experience in mechanical design of fiber-coupled optoelectronic packages.
Experience aligning components to submicron tolerances with high thermal density.
FEA modeling to assess stress, thermal, and misalignment.
NPI experience from design to release to manufacturing.

Responsibilities

Lead mechanical design and layout of laser diode packages and subcomponents.
Design and optimize optical subassemblies for high coupling efficiency and stability.
Develop package architectures with TECs, submounts, hermetic housings, lids, getters.
Ensure designs support active alignment, fixtures, and drift control during assembly.
Perform thermal and mechanical analysis and assess wavelength shift impact.
Design for hermetic sealing and high thermal power density with adequate margin.
Select materials and attachment methods; qualify with suppliers.
Drive design-for-manufacturability for high-yield production.
