Job summary

Alaska Power & Telephone invites a Mechanical Engineer with 5+ years of utility or industrial experience to design and implement rotating equipment projects, from concept through construction. The role requires field work in Alaska or Pacific Northwest travel up to 25% and collaboration with operations teams.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree (2- or 4-year) in a relevant field.
• Five or more years of field and design experience in small utility installations.
• Knowledge of diesel engine technologies and construction practices.
• Ability to travel up to 25% and work in the field.
• Must pass pre-employment drug test and background check.

Responsibilities

• Develop designs for rotating equipment from concept to construction.
• Support hydroelectric and diesel plant maintenance programs.
• Provide operational support across diesel and hydro facilities, including after-hours troubleshooting.
• Prepare reports, standards, specifications, RFPs, and material requisitions.
• Install, test, startup, upgrades and repairs with mechanics and electricians.
• Prepare SOPs and safety procedures; review facilities for NESC compliance.
• Work with technical staff on budgeting, planning and project tracking.
